Arun Govil is an Indian actor, producer, and politician who is well-known for playing the role of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s 1987 television series ‘Ramayan.’ In 1988, he also won the Uptron Award in Best Actor category for ‘Ramayan.’ Throughout his acting career, Govil has appeared in several Bhojpuri, Telugu, Braj Bhasha, Odia, and Hindi films. He was born on January 12, 1958, in Uttar Pradesh. While in college, he used to participate in several dramas. He made his Bollywood debut in 1977 with Prashanta Nanda’s film ‘Paheli.’ Following this, his sister-in-law Tabassum introduced him to Indian film producer Tarachand Barjatya. Barjatya was very impressed by Govil’s performance in the film and signed him for three films - ‘Radha Aur Seeta,’ ‘Sawan Ko Aane Do,’ and ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin.’ Govil rose to fame with the 1979 film ‘Sawan Ko Aane Do,’ which became a huge success at the box office. He had also appeared in the 1981 film ‘Jiyo To Aise Jiyo.’ He made his television debut in Ramanand Sagar’s television series ‘Vikram Aur Betaal.’ He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in March 2021.
